What is the difference between automatic and semi-automatic espresso machines?
With semi-automatic machines and devices equipped with filter baskets, the coffee is put into the filter basket fixed to the machine. Coffee machines with filter baskets do not have an integrated coffee grinder. For freshly ground coffee, a separate grinder is necessary. The advantage of semi-automatic espresso machines is that a variety of factors can be manually set to influence the quality of coffee. Fully-automatic machines contain an integrated grinder and allow users to grind coffee directly before brewing. The machines are easy to use and brew good coffee at the press of a button. However, with fully automatic machines, the brewing process can only be marginally influenced. Only a qualifi ed specialist is allowed to adjust the machine‘s setting. The purchase of these machines is expensive.
